Fungi Bonanza and That Was Close!

As I contemplated tonight’s post I bounced a couple of ideas back and forth. Should I share just a few fungi photos so I don’t overload the page or might people be interested in the variety of fungi I found today. I have decided to share a large number of images with the thought that viewers can scroll past if they are not interested. If you do plan to scroll past, I would encourage you to look at my “near miss” excitement I have described near the end of this post.

This morning I went out in my canoe looking for fungi or any other natural items of interest. Since we had high water I was not sure if fungal spores were washed away or concentrated. After a couple of hours it was easy to say there were many fungi appearing up and down the river. I will share some of the images now. Note: Most photos were taken from the seat of my canoe where water and current made photography a bit more challenging.

I used a fungus app for identification purposes. For some fungi I am not certain the app was correct. I am sharing the species identification provided by the app. Errors may exist.

As I was paddling along the shore, often buried deep into overhanging trees to gain access for fungi photos, I had a “near miss” of sorts. After backing out of a shoreline shrub I looked to my left and noticed I was very close to a common water snake that was likely waiting to snatch an unsuspecting bird picking berries. I had to shoot photos of the sneaky reptile. (The snake was two-three feet long.) (I am very lucky this snake did not drop into my canoe. I was close!)
