Hazards of Macro Photography

This week I added another piece of macro photography equipment to my collection. Even though I expected the gear to work just fine, I still tested it tonight.

My subject for this test was a northern paper wasp I thought I had rendered deceased. When I picked it up to place it in a controlled environment I thought I saw movement, but then decided I was seeing the effects of the wind. Well, as I was shooting test pictures of the wasp it started moving around. This time I knew it was really moving!

Since I have a sensitivity to wasp stings, a moving wasp very close and under duress could have been very dangerous for me. I don’t want to have to use my Epi-pen because of macro photography. That is hazard number one of macro photography.

Hazard number two is that macro photography can cause you to buy one photo tool after another. Macro photography can get expensive!

Oh yes, the new gear worked fine, as expected.
