Planting Seeds
Our message at church today was about planting seeds. Specific to the church, the challenge is to instill a desire to continue a church - a faith body - into the next generation and beyond. Without planting seeds, faith families wither. Soon the church itself is no longer able to sustain and closes to become a coffee shop, art gallery, or maybe a private residence.
As I listened to the message I thought how the concept was appropriate for any organization. Specifically I look at the EMS situation that has been so dear to my heart. The three volunteer services I am a member of have very few new (younger) people volunteering for this crucial effort. As a senior EMS provider, new folks are needed to plant a seed. Without more seedlings EMS could fold. The breaking point is closer than most would realize.
Our environment is another area ripe for seed planting - literally and figuratively. I have a deep passion for so many aspects of our natural world. I share it when I can, but when there are few young people interested, what is a person to do? I am not blaming young people. They are pulled in so many directions.
Even many in our nation’s leadership seem to have little interest in the environment - opting instead to focus on how to grab the last dollar. When this resource is gone, it is gone forever. For some of us our natural world is worth protecting. Do enough people have the same consideration?
In so many ways it is time for us to plant seeds - faith seeds, volunteerism seeds, and environmental passion seeds. We can do this, but we need to get started.
Today’s images are the results of wildflower seeds I tossed (did not plant). Nature took my offering and turned it into color!
