Thank Goodness for Lidocaine

Those who know me well (family and Buttercup among others) are familiar with my fear of needles. I should clarify that I have started many IV’s with no problems. The issue rears its ugly head when it is me who has to be poked or injected. That is when I come quite close to passing out. Needles and me… a mix for anxiety!

Today I had a procedure done that was preceded by a needle pressed into my shoulder joint capsule. Once in place, the joint was filled with contrast.

As you can imagine, I was not comfortable with the plan for today. Thank goodness a preliminary step, after multiple cleanings of the area, included a good dose of lidocaine. That dose of lidocaine made the puncture and joint expansion tolerable. And, I didn’t cry!!! This was an X-ray with the needle in place. I am not sure, but the needle almost appears to have a bend in it.

After surviving the procedure I then checked out a few calming scenes - shown here.
