Purple Flowers Making White Flowers - It Gets Really Deep
In our prairie I have found one white purple coneflower and several white purple prairie clovers. Seeing what I considered pigment anomalies, I did a little research. If what I found was correct, purple plants with white blossoms are a result of genetics. And with subsequent plant generations, the odds of an “incorrect” color increase.
Rather than putting together a college paper on genes and probabilities, let’s just go with the color variations being a result of genetics so we can enjoy the blooms.
By the way, I read that white blooms tend to attract pollinators better than purple bloom. Maybe we should count pollinators and their color preferences too? On second thought, let’s not go any further on that either! Just take in the wildflowers.
