Visually Subdued, Not So With Their Call
Moving around in the local woodlands are an assortment of birds I find difficult to identify. I am referring to pewees, flycatchers, and similar birds. All are gray or brown, sometimes with a touch of yellow or olive coloration. None really stick out and grab a person’s attention. Today movement of an eastern wood pewee was my focus.

What this eastern wood pewee lacks in gaudy colors it makes up for with its call. The high frequency “pee weeeeeeee….” was a give away to this pewee’s presence. Frequent quick chases for insects allowed me to find the calling bird. Its resting for a few seconds provided this opportunity for a photograph.
Now to learn the other drab-colored birds of the woodlands. What a task that will be!
Many thanks to the fine folks from Eisenach Village who joined me for a wildlife presentation this morning. I had a great time and hope you did too!
