Almost Too Fast For Us (to focus)

As Kristy and I were out traveling today we stopped by a small wetland many people drive past, but far fewer explore. Even for me it was only the third time there, but I wanted Kristy to see it.

My expectations when we got out were that we might see some wildflowers or maybe bobolinks on the prairie near the wetland. Other than golden alexanders, we saw no blooms. No bobolinks were seen either. But, we did not go away birdless!

Flying very low over the water and exceptionally close to us were a dozen or more black terns. I have seen and photographed black terns before, but never concentrated in one small spot and certainly not with them approaching us as they did.

Kristy used one camera and I had the other and together we struggled to create many acceptable images of the fast birds that changed directions like swallows.

Still, we did come home with some photos and I will share them here.
