The Water is Dropping But There is Still Plenty to See

I cannot say for sure, but it appears the water level at Segment A of Sweet Marsh has dropped about six inches since Friday. We have not have rain for some time, or maybe boards in the water control structure have been pulled, but for whatever reason the water is dropping. If this rate continues, soon it will be next to impossible to paddle in that pool. Exploring will be limited to the dikes or chest waders (if you dare challenge the muck).

There was still plenty of water to move around to watch the yellow-headed blackbirds that appear to be nesting on Segment A for the first time in many years. I moved into the cattails where a pair was active and shot some photos. This was a sampling.

Near the boat ramp this blackpoll warbler was flitting around for a few minutes. Then, the active little bird was gone. This picture was the best I could do.
