Time, Weather, and Rust
Hanging on what remains of a stump deep in one of my favorite woodlands was this long-forgotten axe head. Missing was the handle and wedge, along with any history of why the head was found weathering away in the timber.
I can only guess that the axe head came from a time of sweat and muscles; long before chainsaws sped the tree-felling process. Now time and the elements are very slowly breaking down the axe head, its sharp edge lost decades ago.

After photographing this relic in the forest I walked away - the axe head remaining where I found it. Maybe the wandering path of others will take them to this forgotten tool. Unless they are looking, they may not even notice the steel and wood composition almost hidden in the trees. I will keep an eye on the axe head to watch as it rusts and weathers away. Chances are the steel will outlast me, but I will watch as I long as I can.
