Part of the Mix
Very few locations considered “virgin prairies” exist in Iowa (or probably elsewhere). Most of the prairies we do have were likely the beneficiaries of human help.
Today our Soil and Water Conservation District, in partnership with our NRCS team, and with volunteers from Bartels Retirement Community packed seed packets with prairie seeds - strong on wildflowers. Many thanks to the volunteers from Bartels and the Bartels staff!
This picture shows just one of three pages of the flowers included in the mix that we poured into packets to give away to folks interested in creating their own prairie.

I recorded a short video explaining the process. View the video at this link: “Packing Prairie Seed Packets Video”
During the day I also checked out the bridge reconstruction process in Waverly. These were some of the pics and a video. “Waverly Bridge Reconstruction”
