Too Late For One, Maybe on the Other

Making their way across the road in the thriving metropolis of Frederika were two snapping turtle hatchlings. One had already lost the road challenge to a vehicle, but one had not. It was time for a rescue!

I stopped and picked up the tiny turtle and took it to the Wapsipinicon River where its odds of survival are much better than on the highway.

After shooting pictures, I put the turtle on a rock in the river. Hopefully our paths will cross again when this snapper is much larger.

Oh… the habitat where the turtle was placed looks good with nodding beggarticks growing in the shallow water along the river bank.
