I Wish I Could Ask Bob

Quite some time ago I was a member of a four-men Bible study group. We met regularly for 12 or 15 or more years (I don’t remember). Our time together ended around COVID and when one of our members (Bob) passed away. Bob was a great guy who, as the years went on, became a good friend. Bob introduced me to “smelt fries” or what appeared to be deep fat-fried minnows. I liked them and enjoyed the smelt fries with Bob.

Today, while trout fishing, I caught more creek chubs than trout. As I was unhooking one chub after another I was wishing I could call Bob to ask if we could prepare the chubs like smelt and have a smelt fry of our own. Of course I can no longer reach Bob, so I mentioned it to Kristy. She was a quick “No” on the idea, so I tossed the chubs back in. Maybe I should try them on my own? (By the way - I fish for trout with ultra-light equipment and 2-lb test line. With such light equipment, even catching chubs is fun!)
