Years in the Making

Three years ago we began our little prairie planning project. Our start date coincided with a multi-year’s long drought. Still, I tossed out prairie grass and wildflower seeds in hopes of some success.

This morning I noticed several clumps of big bluestem standing tall above the other vegetation. We have success! Tylar was right… sleep, creep, leap!

Also standing tall are cup plants and Queen Anne’s lace. I could get by without the Queen Anne’s lace, but it does make for interesting pictures.

Closer to the ground we have partridge pea in bloom. There aren’t many plants, but considering we are just getting started, we may have more in time.

Yesterday I shared a sampling of green heron images I was using for a project. That effort was for a video “Exploring Lake Meyer” in Winneshiek County. I uploaded the video a few minutes ago. View it by clicking on this link: “Exploring Lake Meyer”

Finally, I think I know why we aren’t seeing as many birds as I expected.
