The Great Blue Heron’s Dock - I Guess We Will Move!

Today my grandson and I went bass fishing in a private pond. We were using small bluegills for bait and had caught and released several bass. As we were fishing, we had a great blue heron approach within feet several times.

While we were distracted by the heron, a bass hit on my bait, pulling my rod and reel into the pond.

Then the heron moved to the dock where it pierced and ate one of our bait fish. We were concerned the heron would then take our fish from our bucket. Eventually the heron did move on, but not far.

For those wondering, I was able to retrieve my rod and reel from the pond. Yes, a largemouth bass was on the line and I pulled that in too!

What an experience for my grandson and me!
