Photography and Emotions
Photography, painting, word works… each has the power to generate emotions within the viewer. An artist’s work can be viewed and with little or no explanations the people seeing the work may experience the gamut of feelings. From happy to sad, excited to scared, or maybe even sympathetic - the thoughts are there and can be different for everyone.
Today I am going to share two images, initially with no explanation. Please, just pause to look at the pictures. Think about the feelings the images generated. I have a feeling you will react emotionally to what you see.

Flies Around Eye of Bison - Image 1015094
When I saw the flies around the eyes of this bison I ran through many thoughts. Sympathetic for the animal, sensing bugs around me and wanting to itch, sorry there was nothing I could do, accepting that this happens every day to the animals - wild and domestic - that are in the elements. This has happened since time began and will continue. The difference was this was right in front of me - so close I could have reached out to change the situation, but only temporarily.
Fishing From Canoe - Image 1013343
This image had a completely different effect on me. Seeing a canoe on the water, a fishing rod at the ready, quiet water… so many relaxing thoughts come to mind. Unlike the flies on the bison’s eye, with this picture I am calm, comforted, and satisfied.
Such are the arts. Done right that have impact. I try with some success to express in pictures various emotions. With these two I feel there was some success.
