Dragonflies Have Eyelashes! (and more)

My early morning walk was stopped abruptly this morning when I noticed this common green darner dragonfly on the road. The dragonfly was still alive. I think I just found its resting spot for the night. Since the dragonfly was cooperative I decided to shoot macro photos of it.

This series of images moves progressively closer. Notice how the dragonfly has a wicked looking set of teeth - uppers and lowers. On the softer, gentler side of the dragonfly, notice how it has eyelashes. Seriously - This creature is designed soley for insect capture - barbed legs, so many teeth, ability to fly every direction… what a natural marvel.

And now for some things completely different….

On our drive home from Wisconsin we passed a solar-powered car. I looked it up and found the following:

“Beginning July 21 and continuing through August 1, collegiate teams from across North America will race solar-powered vehicles from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Amarillo, Texas. The route follows the Great River Road through the Midwest before joining stretches of historic Route 66 through Missouri and Oklahoma, offering communities along the way a close-up look at renewable energy technology.”
