If You Cannot Find Real, Go For Fake

Yesterday my angling prowess was exceptional, today… not so much. I tossed plenty of offerings to the bass world with each being declined except for one. When that happens I get bored. When I get bored I pull out my camera and start looking for photo possibilities.

As I paddled the edge of the pond I caught a glimpse of what appeared to be an unusual turtle with a bright red eye. (Remember, I was in a canoe, some distance away.) Thinking I found a special turtles species, I paddled so I could quietly approach closer. It was when I studied the “turtle head” through my long lens that I realized I was looking at a fishing lure. Since I was not catching fish, I did not hesitate to pull in this fake fish. At least I did not get skunked!

When I paddled with camera at the ready I did find photo subjects to memorialize and share in digital format. First was this green heron. The vocal little heron first did a fly-over before coming down on the edge of cattails not far from where I was in my canoe. I adjusted my position and pressed my shutter release button.

After photographing the green heron I then concentrated on dragonflies and damselflies. Species identifications are in the captions.
