Summer Solstice Suggestion

About this time last year, really, about this time every year, I try to remind people why the summer solstice is important. Here goes the annual update.

Foremost is the fact that summer is officially here. But, there is so much more. After today, the best season of the year is over. After today, our hours of daylight begin to decrease. After today, vegetation begins the process of ending their lifecycle, eventually dropping to the ground in the fall. After today, we are on the downhill slide to winter.

It may be premature to get your snow shovels out or your snowblowers ready, but you might want to be enjoying these days while we can!

At our cabin we had many leaves drop to the ground already. Lighting hit our oak tree and this branch dropped.

At the cabin I also found this leaf on a fern and we watched eastern kingbirds harass an osprey sky fishing in front of our dock.
