Two “Peents” and a Find!

As I walked along a wetland this morning, looking for wildflowers and turtles, I heard two tell-tale “peent” calls. I knew right away I was hearing a nighthawk, but where was it?

There were no nighthawks in flight, so the bird had to be in the trees somewhere. In a matter of seconds I recognized a shape as the nighthawk I was looking for. Soon I was photographing the bird - first from one side and then from across the creek for a different view. The shooting location change accounts for the subtle lighting differences.

This afternoon I found some late spring wildflowers in bloom. Most were past their peak, but there were a few that were still photo-worthy.
