Are We Like Dandelions?
Today was another “healthcare challenge day” filled with many more questions than possible answers. I drove home with uncertainty, thoughts, ideas, and plenty of confusion and uncertainty.
After returning home I wandered our pollinator habitat to think about something else - something more positive. My tracks were made in our intentionally burned wildflower habitat. I saw plenty of green rising from the ashes. Some of the vegetation pushing up was desirable with many more plants considered weeds (depending on your location).
Without the established plants we had before the burn, the blackened scene appeared chaotic. Yet, among the vegetation chaos was an ample supply of dandelions standing proud. I compared the random dandelions in a field of blooming opportunities to some of the positive leaders among our current civilization trying to maintain and improve our society in distress. (I am not necessarily referring to any politicians.)
Like dandelions attempting to establish a viable existence in a burned over field, we do have good people (dandelions) attempting to address some of the chaotic issues our society faces (our burned over field). Neither all of the dandelions or the citizens leaders are guaranteed success. In fact, failure will likely come more often than “wins,” but still the dandelions and positive leaders try. Some dandelions will thrive, even when other plants again dominate the habitat. Some societal leaders will move in front of the chaos to bring a sense of order, pride and eventually comfort and success.
My hope is to live like a dandelion - to try even when challenging, to persevere when circumstances become challenging, and to stand out when necessary - even when it may not be easy.
