One Dead Goose Does Not Suggest An Outbreak

In a small area of open water where waterfowl have been concentrated this winter I found a dead Canada goose today. This one dead Canada goose alone does not suggest an avian influenza (or other disease) outbreak. If I start to find more dead birds there may be reason for concern. For now though, the bird has been noted and I will keep my eyes open for more. On a positive note… our warm conditions are providing more puddles of open water to allow the birds to disperse. Let’s hope this was an isolated incident.

At our house one of our bald eagles stopped by to watch me in the yard. They sure look impressive!
