Fleeting Moments

Early this morning I learned a classmate was no longer with us as of a couple of days ago. While we weren’t close friends, we would talk and wave when our paths crossed.

As I drove to our cabin I passed by my classmate’s home before turning down the road toward the river. From behind the wheel of the Jeep I could see warm, bright colors lighting the top half of the trees on the far side of the pond.

Although my drive was short, by the time I reached the shoreline with my camera the trees were nearly fully lit by the rising sun. I pressed the shutter release a few times and then the rising sun was obscured by clouds.

I thought of how fast the light shone down, then highlighted the trees, and was gone. It seems life is following the same course. Not long ago we were kids in school, then raising kids of our own, followed by welcoming the children of our children. Now we are in that phase of life when age and health alter our planned directions.

Life is nothing more than a series of fleeting moments. Unfortunately, it seems to take a life time of fleeting moments to recognize how fast the fleeting moments are gone. Oh how I wish I knew this sooner.
