Goose Gathering

Unlike the winter of 2025 when hundreds of waterfowl - including Canada geese, trumpeter swans, and mallards - along with bald eagles - perished at Sweet Marsh due to avian influenza, so far this year all appears healthy. In the event the virus does present, I will not be surprised to witness another mass die-off due to the close concentration of birds. For now I will count blessings and hope all the birds remain healthy in what little open water we have.

As I studied the waterfowl I noticed many dozen Canada geese, several mallards, and even one American coot. Today I did not find the wood duck I have seen many times. I am guessing he was in hiding behind the crowd or somewhere close by.

Also out and about today, and watching me watching it, was this gray squirrel.
